80% of our patients in Guatemala have to travel more than two hours to access the care they need. This is why Operation Smile is working to bring high-quality cleft care closer to home.

Over the next five years, we will strengthen cleft surgical systems in three strategic regions — Guatemala City, Escuintla and Petén — by equipping local cleft operative teams with advanced skills, providing essential equipment and enhancing the infrastructure of health facilities.

We will equip Guatemalan health professionals to deliver year-round care to children in need, no matter where they live.

In partnership with Rwanda’s Ministry of Health, Operation 100 is strengthening the nation’s surgical system through a new hub-and-spoke network that brings care closer to families. By training plastic surgeons and anesthesiologists within district hospitals, Rwanda is creating a lasting model for 
surgical access and education.
